Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a specialised type of dental X-ray that captures a full three-dimensional image of your teeth, jawbone, nerves, and sinuses in a single scan. Unlike a traditional 2D X-ray, it lets us see the exact shape, density, and position of every structure from any angle.

At Azul Dental Center, we use the MyRay Proxima X6, an Italian-engineered CBCT system that captures highly detailed 3D images in seconds with a low radiation dose. Is a CBCT scan safe?

Yes. At Azul Dental Center, we use a modern CBCT system that produces highly detailed 3D images with a significantly lower radiation dose than a conventional medical CT scan.

Does the scan hurt or take long?

No. There is no discomfort at all. You simply stand still while the scanner arm rotates once around your head, which takes only a few seconds.

How is CBCT different from a regular dental X-ray?

A regular dental X-ray gives a flat, two-dimensional image, which can hide overlapping structures. CBCT builds a full 3D model of your jaw, letting your dentist rotate, measure, and slice through the anatomy from any angle — essential for anything requiring precise depth and positioning, such as implant planning.

Can children have a CBCT scan?

Yes, when clinically indicated. A CBCT scan can be invaluable for assessing impacted teeth, jaw development and certain orthodontic conditions. It is only recommended when the additional information will benefit diagnosis or treatment planning.
